Mother’s Day

Today we celebrate mothers, an incredible gift from God. God designed us so that when we are born, we are helpless. We need our mothers to nurture us protect us from the many dangers of this world. Our mother is the one who, in some ways, knows us better than we know ourselves. Our mother is the one who stays up late with us, struggles with us, and talks to us in our troubles. Our mother is the one who loves us more than any of our friends could. In Christian families, our mother is often the one who reveals Christ to us and helps us find Salvation. God knew what he was doing when He gave us mothers. What would we do without them? Don’t you agree? Sadly, I think many would say that, but there are some in this generation who do not give their mothers the respect they deserve. We tell them to stop kissing us in front of our friends. We tell them that we can deal with our issues on our own, and that we don’t need their 20 extra years of experience on this earth. We don’t love them back like they love us. The teen years and peer pressure that comes with them have destroyed love and respect for mothers, and we desperately need that back. We shouldn’t be annoyed at our mothers when they show love for us with our friends watching. We should be grateful that we have a mother so loving to us.

For many, their mother was there from the beginning and still helps them through life. Their mothers show them the love a mother only can, and they take care of them through the years. But for some, their mother did not love them. For some, their mother left them and abandoned them either emotionally, physically, or both. Though it is heartbreaking to think about, there are thousands of girls and boys in horrible conditions around the world without a comfort in the world, much less adoring mothers like most of us have. We need to help these unfortunate ones, and show them the love they never received from their mom. We need to show them the love of Christ, and if possible, help them out of their terrible situations. Sometimes this can be through adoption or mission trips, and other times showing love to them in hard times can be as simple as a hug.

In some cases, a mother might love someone and take care of them, but just isn’t a very good mother. Some mothers honestly aren’t very good at the job, but in this case we must remember that all mothers are sinners, and as Christians, we must forgive our mothers for the mistakes they made. God forgave us, and we are to forgive others (Colossians 3:13). If your mother abandoned you, you must have the strength to forgive them and accept that God has a plan for your life. If your mother did not, praise God! Show your mom that you are thankful for her devotion to your life, and make her feel like the jewel in your life that she is. Praise God for mothers.

Happy Mother’s Day, and God bless!
